Greetings Everyone! Thanks for stopping by!
Ms. Mickelson here. This is site where I'll be posting bits of fun that happen in my various art spaces as well as fun art news from around New Haven!
I taught at Hill Central and Brennan Rogers schools in New Haven from 2010-2016. Currently I teach at the Dr. Reginald Mayo Early Childhood School, also in New Haven. I got my Bachelor's Degree in Art in 2004 from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, then got my Teaching Certification and Master's Degree at Cardinal Stritch in Milwaukee, WI. I worked as an Associate Teacher in a 4th and 5th classroom at Cold Spring School, also in New Haven, for two years. I learned a lot during that time and miss the community very much! However, I needed to be teaching art. I set out to search for work as an Art Teacher and, while standing in my Aunt and Uncle's driveway on sunny summer day in 2010, happened to talk to someone who knew that New Haven was looking for Art Teachers. What perfect timing!
So, what is art class like?
Art class is a space for exploring and experimenting with a variety of artistic media and styles. The expectations are that students approach everything with an open mind, try their best, respect all other artists and materials, and use their time wisely. I will never ask anything immoral, irrelevant or impossible in my room!
So here I am today, enjoying my time sharing my love of art with students and teachers alike. Art is for everyone, not just future professional artists.
Let's play!
